Maths Week Scotland 2022 Activity Packs

A cropped close up of four printed out sheets from the activity packs, showing different activities. One sheet shows bottles with different coloured liquids in them, one sheet shows mazes, and the other two sheets show geometric shapes.

Our new Activity Packs for Maths Week Scotland 2022 are here! The packs contain suggestions and ways to celebrate and enjoy Maths Week Scotland either at home or within your education setting, including early years centres, schools, community and learning groups, girlguiding and scouting groups, and others.

There are four different packs, covering a range of curriculum levels: Early Level (age 3 to P1), First Level (P2-P4), Second Level (P5-P7), and Third/ Fourth Level (S1-S3). These ages are just a guideline, the curriculum levels framework is designed to be flexible and the packs are suitable for anyone working at those levels.

Each pack includes some general activities to encourage different maths skills, as well as activities in two main thematic areas. The first is 'Beauty of Maths', which is also the focus theme of this year's Maths Week Scotland. Selected activities include music, art, patterns and shapes.

The second theme is 'Maths at Work'. One of the aims of Maths Week Scotland is to show how maths is important in a huge range of jobs and careers. The selected activities encourage children to think about how maths is relevant to a number of careers they may not have considered before as having maths involved.

You can also check out further examples of maths being used in different kinds of jobs, in our previous post.

The Early Years Level pack has a new look - it has been adapted with Early Years education specialists to work within Early Years education settings, in line with the Realising the Ambition: Being Me framework. Each suggestion in this pack outlines the mathematical skills used, a suggested scenario with questions for the children and further ideas to explore.

You can download this year's new Activity Packs via the buttons below, and you can also download the Activity Packs from previous years from our archives.

The packs have been developed with Education Scotland and teachers.
