Schools - Get Ready for Maths Week Scotland 2022!

Schools get ready preview featured

Calling all teachers! With August well on its way now you'll be making back to school plans, so we wanted to give you a few pointers on how to get involved in Maths Week Scotland this year. We are looking forward to celebrating with you and your pupils 26 September – 2 October 2022 with our theme ‘Beauty of Maths’.

This year there will be a mix of in person and digital events for schools as well as resources for you to use with your class.

We will be adding to the Events page with information on bookable events for your classes in your local area as well as online. Keep your eyes peeled for events at local museums, science centres and universities. New resources will also be added to our Ideas and Inspiration page to do with your class

Activity Packs

The Maths Week Scotland Activity Packs are back this year with brand new activities. Developed with Education Scotland and teacher consultants, find ideas for Early Years up to Third/Fourth Level.

#ShowYourWorking

Take part in our #ShowYourWorking campaign showcasing the importance of maths in all careers as well as the work of mathematicians. Research careers with your class or interview parents and create your own #ShowYourWorking postcards.

STEM Ambassadors

Request a STEM Ambassador to speak to your classes about the maths in a range of STEM careers, or perhaps help you develop ideas for a particular topic. Join the Maths Week Scotland teachers session on 24 August (Primary) or 25 August (Secondary) to find out more. Or tune in with your class during Maths Week Scotland to a virtual STEM ambassador talk.

Competitions

Maths Week Scotland competitions will return for 2022.

  • The Daily Maths Challenge from Scottish Mathematical Council makes a perfect starter activity during Maths Week Scotland with hints and tips videos on how to solve from BBC Scotland.
  • Can't wait til Maths Week Scotland? The Maths Inside photography competition is open from 1 September until 30 September and challenges you to get creative with your cameras searching for the maths around us.
  • For those who prefer to unleash their competitive streak digitally, Sumdog and Scotland Rocks competitions will return. Who will be crowned Scotland's winning school this time?
  • Finally, Maths Wi Nae Borders encourages teamwork and creativity with its class competition. Opens 26 September.

Maths in Museums

Museums across Scotland are diving into their collections for Maths Week Scotland. From financial history with Museum on the Mound to weather at Glencoe Folk Museum, topics will show maths is everywhere and make a maths day out. We'll be adding more events to our calendar, the closer we get to Maths Week Scotland.

And finally...

Don't forget to follow us on Facebook or Twitter for updates and to share what you are up to.
