Using Manipulatives for Mathematical Communication

Maths provides us with a language to solve problems and to understand the world around us. Join Louise Pennington – PD Lead at Oxford University Press – to find new ideas and simple tweaks that can be made to help the use of manipulatives enrich thinking, vocabulary, language and communication.
This practical webinar that is aimed at P1-P7 Colleagues, and is also relevant for Secondary Colleagues interested in language and manipulatives in maths.
In the session, we will consider the impact of the Global Pandemic on mathematical teaching and learning, discuss the role of manipulatives in mathematical communication and examine how teacher talk and questioning enhances these activities.
Please note that you will need a piece of A4 paper and either Numicon shapes or the Numicon printable shapes downloaded from The Oxford Owl website.
