STEM Exchange: An Introduction to Topology

We will be joined by DR. Irakli Patchkoria, researcher and lecturer from the Department of Mathematics of the University of Aberdeen, for a 20 minute talk on his research field of topology.
What is a knot, doughnut or Platonic solid? How is this maths and how does this solve any problems!? Join Irakli to find out!
Through interesting facts and examples, we will be given us an introduction to topology, where we will explore interesting geometric objects and learn how this research is useful in maths and to other areas of science.
Who is this talk for?
This talk is for anyone curious! For non-mathematicians interested in what modern day mathematicians are still researching or anyone just interested in learning something new!
Idealy for anyone interested in studying a maths, this talk also gives a glimpses into some areas being taught within the Department of Mathematics of the University of Aberdeen.
