Curious Maths Quiz

Suitable for S1/S2
Join mathematician Rob Eastaway for the Curious Maths Quiz showcasing the surprises we can find in maths in the world around us!
This fun and interactive talk takes the form of a curious quiz, with audience members pairing up to answer the questions. What's curious about it is that there are only eight questions, all of them linked to “real world” situations that range from basketball to Jurassic Park, and the answers are full of mathematical surprises that reveal some of the beauty of mathematics.
Almost without realising it, the audience is introduced to important ideas in fractions, trigonometry, visualising in three dimensions and more.
This talk is aimed at S1/S2 and works well across a wide range of maths abilities. There are two slots to choose from (10.30am - 11.30 am) or (1.30pm - 2.30pm).
Your classes are welcome to explore the museum before or after the talk. The museum is open 10am - 5pm and more information can be found on the National Museum of Scotland website.
Class visits to the museum need to be booked separately.
